Jesus Gives Us Glorious Grace
John 1:15-18
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[a] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
Jesus provides the grace sufficient to save sinners.
(John 1:16)
“Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.”
The scriptures reveal that we are spiritually impoverished, lacking any ability to commend ourselves to God or save ourselves from His just condemnation. However, we witness that God is abundant in grace, bestowing unmerited favour upon sinners who were incapable of doing anything for themselves.
In response to this point, John introduces us to Christ, who embodies such grace and offers us hope. If we are in Christ, we have no reason to fear that we will exhaust God’s boundless grace.
Jesus provides grace sufficient to sanctify sinners.
Have you ever asked the questions, “How much will god God put up with my sin and will I ever grow as a Christian?. “
“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
First we must allow our minds and hearts to bask in the grace of the cross. What do I mean by that? Understanding and believing that on the cross Jesus Christ gives us full atonement for all our sin past, present and future. That is the promise of the Gospel. That is what John says in others words grace comes by Christ.
So now as we may sin as Christians and long for growth away from sin to Christlikeness we must seek to draw from His grace, and you’ll never exhaust His supply. In fact, so far from diminishing Him, bothering Him, or annoying Him, when you seek fresh grace from Him, you magnify His fullness. You glorify Him as one who is so abundant that He can supply every need you have.
Stop for a moment and think that seeking grace from Christ actually glorifies Him as as the one that is sufficient to give grace upon grace. Now this definitely does not mean we take sin lightly so grace may abound as Paul says in Romans may that never be! But I do think this may mean we grow in the practice of Daily drawing from His fountain of grace that fills the heart with satisfaction, joy, and love, replacing the search for it in sin.
May the glorious grace of Jesus Christ work in our hearts and minds, for His grace is more than enough to save us and sanctify us. This is grace upon grace.
