In Search of Truth

We all live in the search of the truth. The search for true love, true friendship, a true purpose. We are makers of meaning, it is part of our human build-up to seek meaning and truth. This makes us unique from other species that God has created. Knowledge of the truth in turn influences how we live, our motives, behaviors, and decisions we make in life. Living apart from the truth leads to a life without purpose, without meaning.

Truth is the state or quality of being true, that is in accordance with fact or reality. The fact that I am alive is true to the fact that I am experiencing the reality of breathing, moving, having a pulse, eating, and so on, realities that confirm that the statement “I am alive” is true.  Nowadays,  the truth is losing its basis in being factual and according to proven reality. The truth is becoming more relative according to one’s experience, emotions, and or perception about life. There is no such thing as absolute truth. You make up your own meaning, however your choose.

Whether we are aware of it or not, we all have the implicit awareness that we are created beings: limited in our knowledge, limited to time and space, and limited physical capabilities.

Our limitations point to either something or someone other than ourselves who holds the key to the truth that our souls yearn for deep within us. We want to be happy and know that deep down life as it is right now is not how it is meant to be. We were created for more than this. . Once we attained what was designed for us then only will we get to live a truly purposeful life in its true reality. Therefore the choices we make, motives, our identity and behavior will be in true alignment.

As innate meaning-makers, we look to science, Buddha, Allah, and God for this kind of soul-transforming and life-giving truth.. We also look within ourselves, our identity, sexuality that we have made up. There lie so many things out there that claim to be the truth and lead to true life. However, in the long run lead to deeper grief, disappointment and confusion (Psalm 16:4). Sin has distorted the truth leading us to search for meaning and truth in things other than in the God who created us - Yahweh. He is the God who has revealed himself who has made his character known and his plans known to us. (Exodus 3: 13-15).

“The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished…”

- Exodus 34:6

Today he speaks to us through his son, Jesus Christ:

Long ago God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets at different times and in different ways. 2 In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. 4 So he became superior to the angels, just as the name he inherited is more excellent than theirs.

- Hebrews 1:1-4

Who is this Jesus?

He is the heir over all God’s creation. Present since eternity. God has given him authority over all things in heaven and on earth and the universe. He sustains all things. He came to humanity (in their sin and in the futile pursuit for truth and fulfilment) to rescue them from the slavery of sin and death and judgement to reconcile them to the Father so that they may have life to the full and in abundance. He did this by laying down his own life (John 10:9-11, John 12: 44-50, Hebrews 2:14-18).

The Lord has spoken has shown us where true life and true purpose is found: in his son Jesus Christ. The mystery of his will and future plans have been made known to us. You who believe, continue to remain in him through faith in him. For those who are still in pursuit or have found rest in temporary wells, Seek him who is the spring water of eternal life, turn to him while it is still possible, for a time will come when he returns and it will be too late.

”I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” (John 14:6).

No one can attain the freeing, life-giving, souls-satisfying truth except through Jesus Christ.
