Praying for One Another (5 points from Will Bruce)

It is so good for us to pray for those around us. Particularly our brothers and sisters in Christ, to bring them and their needs before our Father in heaven. Wilbert Bruce, who ministered in the Philippines from 1959 for 13 years, offers some wisdom on how to pray for others. Let me list 5 points of his that stood out for me.

  1. Pray fervently to be led by the Holy Spirit to the exact needs of the one for whom you are praying.

  2. Be specific, systematic and steadfast in praying for others.

  3. Pray for others as you pray for yourself. Any problem you have, others probably have even if in a slightly different form.

  4. Use a passage of Scripture as you pray for others. Here are some suggestions: Ephesians 1:15-23; 3:14-21; Colossians 1:9-12. (Use Scripture also in praying for yourself).

  5. Accept your responsibility. May you accept your responsibility of interceding for others by getting down to the real business of praying for them.

I have found these 5 points from Bruce helpful in stirring my prayers for others. He ends with this prayer:

“O God, awaken us all to our responsibility to pray for one another so that all Christians may glorify you and fulfil the purpose for which we have been saved!”

Amen! Asithandaze!
